Synesthetic performance — real-time generative visuals
NeuroRhapsody is an interdisciplinary live performance merging music, neuroscience, and generative art. The event took place on 5 October at Teatro Espace 233 in Istres (Marseille), as the finale of the international project INTER-SECTION_"NEUROCONCERTO".
Two guitarists from the ensemble COPLA wore biodynamic sensors that captured their brain activity and physiological parameters in real time during the performance. The biosignals were processed and transformed into three-dimensional generative visuals — projected live on a large screen — revealing the musicians' inner mental landscapes as they played.
A collaboration between Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini (Florence), Università degli Studi di Firenze — Department of Physics, ISIA Design Firenze, NSIGHT SrL, and Conservatorio M. Petrucciani (Istres). Sold-out performance.
I developed the real-time visuals using Touch Designer, translating the performers' biosignals into dynamic 3D forms: fluid, unrepeatable "mind paintings" that gave shape to emotion, thought, and the invisible dialogue between musicians. The entire visual environment was built from Gaussian splatting scans that I personally created from my own library, resulting in a fully volumetric, photorealistic world as the canvas for the live generative imagery.
The result was a fully synesthetic experience in which sound becomes data, data becomes image, and image returns to music — offering audiences a rare, direct window into the creative mind.
